HALL D - MARIA VITTORIA
HOSPITAL
Turin 1996 - 2001
This intervention is considered to be one of the most significant healthcare construction projects in latter years in Turin. The new pavilion is a vessel of technologies characterized by high usage flexibility and duration in time. The architecture reflects and clearly marks the intended use of each section, and is set within the existing surrounding context, standing out without overshadowing the rest.
The materials used have characteristics of high resilience and need a low level of maintenance. Furthermore, they are used so as to exploit their decorative qualities, in full respect of their natural color and texture.
The facade is encased by small concrete blocks in various shades of grey, that are hydro-repellent, and not coated in plaster nor any kind of perishable paint. The metal fittings are made of natural anodized aluminum, while parapets and railings are built in stainless steel.
The roof structure is made of paired plywood beams, and the roof is covered with pre-painted steel slates, with an insulating layer made of 8 cm. extruded polystyrene, air cell, fire-proof planks, and zinc-titanium (Rheinzinc) roof covering.
